SHEDDING

i have had long hair for most of my life, and over time i have developed an attachment to it. from 2011 to 2013, i photographed all of the tangles of hair that had separated from my head in the shower. in just the same way that showering is a routine, so too became this practice of photographing the messy wads of hair that gobbed up the drain or collected around my feet. my love of detail and interest in exploring line quality made tracing these photographs exciting and meditative.

on another level, i hoped that this process would make me less attached to my hair - to realize that perpetual shedding and change takes place with our bodies daily, to come to terms with impermanence.
